OMS and Lectio 365

Lectio 365 is the daily devotional resource of the international 24-7 Prayer movement. Launched in Advent 2019, Lectio 365 has grown quickly to help hundreds of thousands of people around the world begin and end their day with God in prayer.

The Order of the Mustard Seed is a contemporary religious order inspired by the original Moravian OMS of the 18th Century: an acknowledged, ecumenical, lay-led, dispersed community of nearly 1000 members in over 30 nations.

Lectio 365 originated from the Order of the Mustard Seed and reflects many of the Order’s core principles and practises:

The Three Loves at the heart of Lectio 365 are based on the three vows taken by every OMS member: to be True to Christ, Kind to people, and take the Gospel to the nations (which are themselves an expression of the Great Commandment and Great Commission of Christ: to love God, love your neighbour, and love the lost by going to make disciples).

The Six Practises of Prayer, Mission, Justice, Hospitality, Creativity, and Learning which Lectio 365 explores are the same practises which OMS members commit themselves to living out in their own lives and contexts.

The Closing Prayer of Lectio 365 devotionals is the daily prayer of the OMS:

“Father, help us to live this day to the full, being true to You, in every way.

Jesus, help us to give ourselves away to others, being kind to everyone we meet.

Spirit, help us to love the lost, proclaiming Christ in all we do and say.

Amen.”

Having started within the Order of the Mustard Seed, Lectio 365 rapidly went global – we’re delighted that we have been able to share this blessing with the world! For many, Lectio 365 is a life-giving aspect of their personal devotions and that is enough. But for some it has been the start of a journey towards making these vows and practices the structure which supports and brings shape to the whole of their life of faith and discipleship.
