Global Leadership Team

The Global Leadership Team (“Lead Team”) stewards the vision and values of the OMS and provides spiritual oversight, strategic direction, and practical support as the OMS grows in depth, breadth, and impact.  

Phil Anderson
Global Convenor

Phil serves as the Global Convenor of OMS.  In this role, he convenes the Global Leadership Team, communicates vision for the Order, provides strategic leadership and care, and represents the OMS externally. Phil was among the first group to join the reestablished Order of the Mustard Seed in 2005, and was appointed as Global Convenor in 2025.  

Ciara Menzies
Lead Team

As a member of the Global Leadership Team, Ciara provides prayerful, strategic, and servant-hearted leadership to the Order to ensure the flourishing of the Order. She regularly hosts and leads retreats within the order, deepening member formation. In addition, Ciara facilitates the OMS Creatives Collective made up of OMS members sharing their experiences of faithfully living out the practice of Creativity. Ciara first took her vows in 2018. 

Kathy Gust
Global Convenor

As a member of the Global Leadership Team, Kathy works prayerfully to steward the vision of the OMS, supporting leaders and members through resources, leadership development, and facilitation. She also helps facilitate the OMS Spiritual Directors Collective, a community of OMS spiritual directors who gather monthly for mutual support and who serve the Order through spiritual direction and occasional guided experiences. Kathy first took her vows in 2019. 

Maggie Patterson
Oceania Regional Convenor

As a Regional Convenor, Maggie provides local oversight, encouragement and support to OMS members in the Oceania region. This includes coordinating regional activities, recruiting regional volunteers, and serving on the Global Leadership Team to ensure that the Order’s vision and values are lived out faithfully in the context of Oceania. Maggie first took her vows in 2021. 

Scott Burns
Canada & US Regional Convenor

As a Regional Convenor, Scott provides local oversight, encouragement and support to OMS members in Canada and the United States. This includes coordinating regional activities, recruiting regional volunteers, and serving on the Global Leadership Team to ensure that the Order’s vision and values are lived out faithfully in the context of the Canada and US region. Scott first took his vows in 2020. 

Sue Smith
Operational Lead

As the OMS Operational Lead, Sue provides strategic operational leadership to OMS structures, processes, and team. This includes coordinating global volunteers, managing resources, ensuring compliance, and aligning internal processes with the Order’s values.   

Patti Hewat
Candidate Overseer

As the Candidate Overseer, Patti oversees the novitiate phase of the Order, guiding Candidates through the Season of Preparation until they take vows to join the Order.  This includes ongoing development of the key resources for Candidates, communication to Candidates during the Season of Preparation, and recruitment and care of the many cohort leaders who facilitate the Season. Patti first took her vows in 2022.

Sara Huggett
Administrative Officer

As the Administrative Officer, Sara drives operational efficiency in the Order.  This includes coordinating and executing events, triaging communications, resources, and adding administrative capacity to the leadership team and other volunteers. Sara first took her vows in 2023. 

Cathy Dyson
Global Season of Exploration Coordinator

As the Global Season of Exploration Coordinator, Cathy provides leadership, care, and organization for those involved in the Season of Exploration. This includes hosting Information Webinars for Explorers who are interested in the Order and coordinating with the team—discerners, tech hosts, and operational support—that makes it possible to care for hundreds of Explorers during this Season. Cathy first took her vows in 2020. 

Penny Everson
Safeguarding Officer

As Safeguarding Officer, Penny is one of the OMS’s two Designated Safeguarding Officers, providing overview of all activities involving children, young people, and vulnerable adults. This includes implementing the safeguarding policy, receiving concerns, and reporting matters to the Bishop’s Safeguarding Advisor.  Penny first took her vows in 2022

Graham Stuart
Safeguarding Officer

Billy Kennedy
Visitor

As a Visitor to the OMS, Billy provides accountability and connection to the Church of England where the OMS is acknowledged as a lay ecumenical religious order.  He provides support in ensuring liturgical accountability, balancing the community’s creative innovation with Church traditions.
