I’ve met a lot of OMS Members over the last couple of weeks. We were well represented at the 24-7 Prayer Euro-Leaders in Skopje, N. Macedonia, then I had the joy of gathering with fellow OMSers in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa.

It is always challenging and humbling to hear stories from around the Order, and in turn everyone is keen to talk about where we might be going next. With so much opportunity out there, for regional gatherings, collectives, spiritual formation, and growth of every kind, there is a risk that we get slightly overwhelmed with all that we want to do and all that the OMS might become. With that in mind, I started my presentation by describing us as:

a globally dispersed community of disciples

covenantally committed to following Christ in radical obedience to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission

through practises of Prayer, Mission, Justice, Hospitality, Creativity, and Learning expressed and lived out in our own contexts.

…and that is enough!

Romans 8 says that the whole of creation is groaning in anticipation as it waits for God’s children to be revealed. If we are never anything more than living expressions of what it means to follow Jesus into our communities, workplaces, families, and nations then that is a beautiful foretaste of what the world is longing to see, and is surely more than enough.
